On Monday, February 21, 2022, Notre Dame High School senior Stephanie Santilli of Philippi completed her 13th time paging in the West Virginia State Legislature.
Santilli has paged in both the House of Delegates and/or the West Virginia State Senate each year since kindergarten. Only last year, due to Covid-19 protocols, did she not page. One year she paged in both the House and Senate. She had the honor of paging for Delegate Mary Poling, Delegate Danny Wagner, Delegate Chris Phillips, Senator Bob Williams, Senator Dave Sypolt, and Senator Randy Smith.
She has enjoyed learning about the inner workings of the West Virginia State Legislature, particularly bills and discussions that applied to her. One year, she had the opportunity to speak before a House of Delegates Government Organization Committee Meeting regarding Clean Indoor Air Regulations.
In addition to paging on February 21, she represented the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network for Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day at the Capitol. She has volunteered for PanCAN since she was three years old.
She also represented RAZE earlier this legislative session as one of the organization’s state ambassadors. The group celebrated its 20th Anniversary this year.
During her freshman year of high school, she won the State Social Studies Fair with a project entitled, “Changing the World through Advocacy.” She has visited with numerous federal legislators on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC including Congressman David McKinley, Senator Shelley Moore Capito, and Senator Joe Manchin. She can actually say that she helped pass the Recalcitrant Cancer Research Act.
Upon graduation from Notre Dame, Stephanie plans to attend West Liberty University. She has been an active member of 4-H, attending National 4-H Congress in November 2021, and winning both the state 4-H Poster and Visual Presentation Contests. She is currently president of the Mountaineer 4-H Club in Barbour County and is a 4-H pin wearer.
Stephanie is the daughter of Sam and Annette Santilli of Philippi. She is the granddaughter of Margaret Fetty of Buckhannon and the late John Fetty, Sr., Cookie Santilli of Clarksburg, and the late Tony Santilli.
