State troopers make arrest in Elkins murder

BEVERLY — Troopers have arrested a Harmon resident for the murder of a man found just south of Elkins with a gunshot wound to his chest last week, according to a press release from the West Virginia State Police.

“On Monday, November 13, 2023, troopers responded to the residence of Preston L. Higgins, 1366 Ward Road in Randolph County, and discovered Mr. Higgins deceased in his driveway with a single gunshot wound to his chest,” according to the release. “Through investigation that followed, and evidence gathered from the crime scene, troopers discovered evidence which aided in the development of a person of interest which was seen with the victim prior to the shooting. 

“Troopers tracked down this individual which eventually led to the discovery of information leading to the arrest of Dallas Ray Bryant, of Harmon, W.Va., on Friday, Nov. 17, for the murder of Preston L. Higgins.”
