State Police arrest man who allegedly shot and killed his 21-year-old girlfriend in Pocahontas County

CHARLESTON — West Virginia State Troopers arrested a man Monday who they believe shot and killed his girlfriend at a convenience store in Marlinton.

On Feb. 12, 2024, at approximately 9:30 p.m., Pocahontas 911 received a call of a shooting at the Little General in Marlinton, West Virginia,” according to a press release. “Sgt. Massie of the WVSP Marlinton Detachment responded and discovered the suspect had fled the scene. The victim, identified as 21-year-old Camie Rider of Marlinton, WV, was transported to Pocahontas Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced deceased.

“The suspect, identified as 23-year-old Mason Walker of Hillsboro, WV, was quickly located and apprehended by CPL’s Miller, Wolford and Stallings of the Elkins Detachment in Randolph County. The investigation revealed the victim was the girlfriend of the accused and it is believed the incident was the result of a domestic incident.

“The suspect is being charged with murder, with more charges pending. Sgt. Massie is the lead investigator. The status of this investigation remains active and ongoing.”
