BUCKHANNON, W.Va. — St. Joseph’s Hospital is recognizing its surgical technologists during National Surgical Technologist Week, September 16-22.

This week has been designated by the Association of Surgical Technologists (AST) to celebrate and honor the profession. It began by a resolution adopted by the AST Board of Directors in 1984.

This year’s theme is “Surgical Technologists Have Heart” and recognizes the hard work that they do in the operating room to ensure patient safety and operating efficiency.

“Our surgical technologists are the true unsung heroes in the operating room,” Kevin Stingo, R.N., director of Perioperative Services at St. Joseph’s Hospital, said.
