TENNERTON – A hat trick from Harley Dean and a superior defensive effort led the Buckhanon-Upshur soccer Lady Bucs to a convincing 4-0 home win over the Robert C. Byrd Eagles Thursday night at the high school in Big 10 Conference action.

The B-U defense didn’t allow Robert C. Byrd a shot-on-goal or a corner kick in posting their third shutout of the year.

The game was scoreless until the 19th minute when Dean tallied her first goal with the assist going to Mallory Hughes.

Just three minutes later, Dean struck again finding the back of the net with the assist going to Hannah Boyles.

Haley Triplett got into the scoring act five minutes later making it a 3-0 contest with Rylen Carlyle helping on the goal with an assist.

B-U took that 3-0 lead with them into the break.

The lone goal of the second half was Dean’s third score of the night coming in the 52nd minute with the assist going to Kyleigh Keener.

Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Jason Piacente let his bench play most of the final 20 minutes as neither team produced a goal during that time.

“Our bench played about 15-20 minutes in the second half and did really well,” stated Piacente.

The first-year coach was pleased with how his squad controlled the game.

“We possessed the ball about the whole game and got great opportunities to score,” noted Piacente. “Our connections with our passing were fantastic today.”

The Lady Bucs owned an 11-0 margin in shots-on-goal.

The contest was relatively clean with no yellow cards and both teams only committing two fouls apiece.

B-U keeper Kyndal Davis didn’t see any shots while Robert C. Byrd goalie Kendal Sturm made seven saves.

Robert C. Byrd dropped to 4-7-1 overall and 1-5-1 in the Big 10 Conference.

B-U improved to 8-3-2 overall and 6-0-2 in the Big 10 Conference.

The Lady Bucs will be back in action next Thursday hosting Philip Barbour in a conference outing at 5:30 p.m.
