Soccer ‘Cats get shut out by Notre Dame, 1-0

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. — The West Virginia Wesleyan (4-3-3, 2-3-3) men’s soccer team dropped a home game to Notre Dame (Ohio) (9-2-1, 7-2-1) 1-0. after a strong overall performance from the Bobcats.

In the first half, WVWC was able to shut down the speed of play from the Falcons and control the tempo. The Bobcats had most of the momentum in the first half and were able to register two shots. The Bobcat defense was able to limit the Falcons to just two shots as well.

In the second half, the Falcons came out with much more intensity and were able to register a few shots but none on target. In the 52nd minute, the Falcons found themselves with a freekick opportunity right outside the box. Leonardo Palmieri was able to find the head of Connor O’Reilly which then caught a deflection from a Bobcat and found the back of the net. The Bobcats did not stop then and brought the momentum up again but were not able to find anything in the final third. A solid Bobcat defense, Bryant Sheffield, Charlie Naylor, Luis Diaz, Hayden Dodd, were able to limit the Falcons to only three shots on goal the whole game.

The WVWC Bobcats are back on the road on Wednesday (Oct. 5) for a match versus Alderson Broaddus. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
