BUCKHANNON — The West Virginia Wesleyan men’s soccer team battled hard in Mountain East Conference action Sunday afternoon but came up short in a 3–1 defeat to Frostburg State at Culpepper Stadium. The Bobcats mounted a spirited second-half push, outshooting Frostburg 12–3 after the break, yet could not erase an early deficit.
Frostburg State opened the scoring in the 33rd minute when Carlos Quintero Rivas found the net to give the visitors a 1–0 advantage. Less than five minutes later, Frank Stare doubled the lead, sending the Bobcats of Frostburg into halftime up 2–0.
Wesleyan created several early chances, including two quality efforts from Erik Rostoen, but Frostburg goalkeeper Jan Foret turned both away to preserve the lead.
Wesleyan controlled much of the second half, using aggressive wing play and sustained possession to tilt the field in their favor. Despite the pressure, Frostburg extended its advantage to 3–0 in the 64th minute when Anthony Diaz scored off a feed from Stare.
The home side continued to press and was rewarded in the 80th minute. Ahmed Abdelsalam buried a low shot past the Frostburg keeper to bring the score to 3–1, marking his first goal in a Wesleyan uniform.
The Bobcats outshot Frostburg 16–9 for the match and held a 5–4 edge in shots on goal. Rostoen led Wesleyan with three attempts, while Abdelsalam added two shots on target. Matteo Marciani made one save in net.
Frostburg was whistled for 14 fouls compared to Wesleyan’s 13. Noel Ellis received a yellow card for the home team in the 50th minute.
Wesleyan (3-11-3, 2-9-2 MEC) will close out its 2025 regular season on Wednesday, Nov. 5 against Davis & Elkins College at 5 p.m.
