Soccer Bucs see season end with 2-0 loss to Indians in sectional championship battle

BRIDGEPORT – The Buckhannon-Upshur-Bridgeport Indians had to wait a day to get their sectional championship game underway.

The game was scheduled for Thursday, but bad weather in Bridgeport moved it to Friday evening.

For whatever reason, the Bucs came out slow against the Indians and wound up losing a 2-0 decision after the Indians scored two first-half goals.

“We seemed to come out a little slow from the start and Bridgeport was able to take advantage,” noted Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Mike Donato. “We, through some changes in the second half, were able to generate some movement and possession but not enough to get the goals we needed.”

Josh Jackson gave Bridgeport a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute of the game when then ball bounced over the Buckhannon-Upshur back line and he ran on to it and finished with a shot to the far post.

A.J. Dinaldo gave the Indians a 2-0 lead in the 29th minute when he played a cross from Brock Amos and finished with a goal to the back post.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net the rest of the way.

Bridgeport owned a 6-3 advantage in shots-on-goal and a 5-0 lead in corner kicks.

The Bucs were guilty of four fouls while the Indians were called for seven.

B-U keeper Dalton Auvil made three saves while Bridgeport goalie Levi Crayton also made three stops.

The Bucs ended their year with a 6-8-7 record.

“I can’t thank the players and their families enough for a great season, especially our seniors,” concluded Donato. “We asked a lot out of these guys this season and they stepped up big.”
