TENNERTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur soccer Bucs continue to look for an offensive spark as they were shutout in their second straight game to start the season after dropping their home opener Saturday afternoon to the Greenbrier East Spartans by a 5-0 score.

The Bucs were blanked in their opener Wednesday in a 1-0 loss to Morgantown.

B-U trailed by just a 1-0 count at the half to the Spartans after Chase Mizia scored the first of his three goals in the 14th minute.

The Spartans tacked on four more goals in a 12-minute span to start the second half.

Adam Seams scored in the 41st minute, Dawson Trusty tallied a goal in the 44th minute and Mizia scored a pair of unassisted goals in the 50th and 52nd minute.

“We didn’t come out with our best from the start,” stated Buckhannon-Upshur Mike Donato. “ We managed to hang in there in the first half but as the game continued we kept making more mistakes. The guys had a lot to overcome with the heat and a great team with a repeat First Team All-Stater in Seams. We just didn’t have our best but we’ll be sure to assess those mistakes as a team and work to fix those issues.”

The Bucs were outshot by a 10-5 margin and trailed in corner kicks by a 2-1 margin.

B-U played a clean game with no fouls while Greenbrier East was called for six.

Dalton Auvil made five saves in net for the Bucs while counterpart Joe Cochran made five saves for the Spartans.

The Bucs, now 0-2, will be back in action Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. hosting Lewis County.
