Soccer Bucs earn 1-1 tie on the road at Princeton

PRINCETON – The Buckhannon-Upshur soccer Bucs made the four-hour bus trip to Princeton Saturday afternoon and had to settle with a 1-1 tie with the Tigers in non-conference action.

Princeton took a 1-0 lead in the first half behind a penalty kick from Jacob Stull.

B-U scored quickly to open the second half when Camdin Carpenter put in an unassisted goal cleaning up a rebound and finding the back of the net to the far post in the 41st minute.

Neither team was able to score the go-ahead goal in the final 39 minutes of action.

“This was a very physical but cleanly played game on both sides,” stated Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Mike Donato. “We did well with possession and movement, but I was especially proud of how we matched the physical play and used that to create chances. We knew they would be fast, and we wanted to play over the top and we did a good job of making those adjustments and keeping the ball in front of us. We were able to mix up our attacks with through balls, over the top, and plays to the corner, but we just couldn’t get the finish we needed.”

Shots-on-goal were even at 8-8 while the Bucs owned a 2-1 margin in corner kicks.

The Bucs were called for five fouls while Princeton was whistled for 10.

B-U keeper Slaton Kowalkoski made seven saves while Princeton keeper Tyler Clemm stopped six shots.

The tie left Princeton with a 3-7-1 record while the Bucs now own a 4-4-1 mark.

B-U will be back in action Tuesday hosting Woodrow Wilson in a non-conference game at 7:30 p.m.
