Soccer Bucs and University battle to 1-1 draw

MORGANTOWN – The Buckhannon-Upshur Buccaneers and University Hawks battled to a 1-1 draw Saturday afternoon in a non-conference clash.

Both goals occurred in the first half.

Stefon Demoss gave University a 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute with an unassisted goal when he dribbled across the top of the penalty area with a shot to the far post.

Josh Gregory tied the game for the Bucs in the 30th minute when he sent home a penalty kick.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the second half.

“This was one of our first games that we had our full roster of players available for at least most of the match,” noted Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Mike Donato. “As the game progressed we found some balance in our formation and started to pass really well. The PK we earned did allow us to tie the game, but came at a cost as we lost Noah Radabaugh for the rest of the game with an ankle injury, but hopefully he’ll be good to go for Elkins Tuesday.”

The Bucs trailed in shots-on-goal by a 7-3 margin but led in corner kicks by a 3-2 margin.

Buckhannon-Upshur was guilty of five fouls while the Hawks were called for 11.

B-U keeper Dalton Auvil made six saves while Connor Montgomery was credited for two saves for University.

The tie left University with a 4-10-4 mark while the Bucs are now 5-10-2.

The Bucs will return to the pitch Tuesday at Elkins for a 5 p.m. start.
