Roger Dow Westfall, age 70, of Tallmansville, WV, passed away May 25, 2026 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon, WV.
He was born November 25, 1955, in Buckhannon, a son of the late Dorn Louis “Pete” Westfall and Virginia Dawson Westfall. On May 25, 1979, he married his loving wife, Loretta Westfall, who preceded him in death just five short months ago. They shared 46 years of marriage together.
Roger is survived by three children, Louis Westfall of French Creek, WV, Jeanie Daft and husband Brandon of Tallmansville, and Brittany Reinking and husband Lyndon of Westlake, LA; five grandchildren, Summer Westfall of Coalton, WV, Autumn Westfall of French Creek, and Bentley, Kaylee, and Easton Dow Daft, all of Tallmansville; four siblings, Mary Russell and husband Nelson of Buckhannon, Wilma Kelley and husband Gary of Salem, VA, Frank Westfall of Pennsboro, WV, and Carol “Sue” Spotloe of Tallmansville; two sisters-in-law, Sandra Westfall of Weston, WV and Connie Westfall of Parkersburg, WV; one brother-in-law, Teddy Wagoner of Buckhannon; best friends, Rodney and Vanessa Smith of Buckhannon; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one brother, Dorn Westfall; two sisters, Marlene Wagoner and Shirley Landis; and two brothers-in-law, Ken Spotloe and Larry Landis.
Roger loved all five of his grandchildren and loved to pick on them. He loved watching football with Bentley and was so proud that the youngest gets to carry on his name. Roger was a veteran and served in the United States Army.
Some knew Roger by his nickname “Bird,” and his family called him their “Baby Bird.” Roger worked near 30 years at ETI Pipe Plant in Buckhannon, where he made lifelong friends—Woody Riffle, Rodney Smith, Randy “Chickenhead” Tenney, and Stan Mick.
Roger enjoyed deer and rabbit hunting, making handmade knives, and fishing. He enjoyed watching football on Sundays and the show Mountain Men with Jerry Reed. Roger loved gathering with family and friends, a good home-cooked meal, and Lorna’s homemade pies. Roger loved nothing more than picking, joking, and having a good laugh with everyone he knew and met.
Roger will be deeply missed by his children, grandchildren, family, and friends. What a grand reunion he is now having with his wife, parents, brothers, and sisters.
In honoring Mr. Westfall’s wishes, he will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the funeral home to help with funeral expenses.
