Richard L. Crane Sr.

Richard L. Crane, Sr., age 87, of Hobe Sound, FL, passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at his home with his wife of 66 years by his side.

He was born August 8, 1935, in Buckhannon, a son of the late Owen N. and Lela M. Smith Crane.

On November 24, 1956, he married Marjorie V. Anderson Crane who survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Richard Crane, Jr. and wife Betty of FL; five grandchildren, Samantha Diaz and husband Christopher of FL, Amber Crane and fiancé Gene of MD and Dylon, Odessa and Andrew August all of TX; five great-grandchildren, Jason Crane, Jacob and Lela Diaz all of FL and Serena and Bryce August; one sister-in-law, Karen Anderson of OH; two brothers-in-law, Larry and Curtis Anderson both of NC; friends, Jim Smith of Buckhannon and Don McCoy of Clarksburg, WV and Debra Lee’s husband, Joseph August.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Debra Lee and one brother, Ronald Crane.

Mr. Crane, Sr. was a salesman all his life. In 1969, while living in Mesclun, OH, he rescued nine people from a burning home, making him a local hero. Once he retired from sales, he and his wife, Marjorie, spent their time traveling.

Friends will be received at the Heavner Cemetery on Friday, July 28, 2023, from 12 pm (noon) to 1 pm with graveside services beginning a 1 PM with Pastor Ed Lowther officiating.
