Richard Junior Koon, age 76, of Buckhannon, WV, died Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born March 28, 1950, in Queens, WV, a son of the late Shirley C. and Bessie Ivelue Lowther Koon.
He is survived by his wife, Pam Koon of Buckhannon; two daughters, Michelle Fultz and husband David of Buckhannon and Shantelle McDougal and husband Dustin of Weston, WV; four grandchildren, Xavier and Katara Fultz both of Buckhannon and Garrett and Madisyn McDougal both of Weston; one brother, Claud D. Koon of Ellamore, WV; one sister, Zelma Lynn Wilsey of MD; one sister-in-law, Debbie Zickefoose and husband Brian of Buckhannon; one brother-in-law, Randall Burke and wife Brenda; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, Kermit Eugene Koon; four brothers, James Howard, Jerry, Ray, and Jesse B. Koon; two sisters, Betty Gay Dulaney and Dorothy Lou Clingerman; three sisters-in-law, Becky, Dottie, and Marsha Koon; and two brothers-in-law, Bud Clingerman and Neal Wilsey.
Mr. Koon was a jack of all trades and worked in the oil & gas industry. He enjoyed traveling all around to work on the rigs and was a devoted family man who loved to spend time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Richard’s friends Allen Dulaney, John Riffle, Tom Cochran, Mac Perry, and Joe Marino for assisting with his care.
Friends will be received Saturday, April 11, 2026, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at The Way of Holiness Church. A graveside service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Buckhannon Memorial Park in Buckhannon, with Pastor Jerry Murrell officiating.
