Multiple media outlets are reporting Friday afternoon that Troy’s Neal Brown is set to become the next head football coach at West Virginia University pending the completion of a deal that is currently in the works.
The school had focused on two coaches — Brown and Luke Fickell of Cincinnati — after Dana Holgorsen left to accept the top job at the University of Houston.
Brown, who is just 38 years old, spent four years as the head coach at Troy, turning around a program that went 4-8 in his first season to 11-2 last year and 10-3 in 2018.
He has some experience in the Big 12, where he spent two years as the offensive coordinator. He also served in that role for two years at Kentucky before taking the head coaching job at Troy.
Brown is a native of Kentucky.
