Red spike: DHHR reports 38 new COVID-19 cases in Webster County on Saturday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Saturday that 307 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

Locally, new cases were reported in Upshur (3), Barbour (7), Lewis (1), Randolph (2) and Webster (38) counties. Webster is the only county in the state colored red on the DHHR alert map.

A total of 36 cases are currently active in Upshur County, according to the DHHR.

Eight additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 81-year old female from Marion County, a 58-year old male from Marion County, a 75-year old female from Putnam County, a 94-year old female from Marion County, a 54-year old male from Berkeley County, a 79-year old female from Ohio County, an 87-year old female from Marshall County, and a 93-year old male from Hancock County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of March 13, 2021, there have been 2,289,234 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 135,149 total cases and 2519 total deaths,” according to a press release.

About 5,157 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 127,473 people have recovered and 2,519 have died. The daily percent positive was 3.38%.

A total of 242,041 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said.
