Peggy Jo Shaffer

Peggy Jo Shaffer, of Buckhannon, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Friday, June 13, 2025, at the age of 86.

She was born September 3, 1938, to Reta Gay Black Hye and Ray Newton Hyre and was a life-long resident of Upshur County.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Shaffer, and her daughter, Betsy Jane Craig.

She was a loyal Kroger employee for over 30 years.

Peggy was devoted to her family. She was loving, generous and supportive and will be greatly missed. She especially enjoyed visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who remember special memories of their time with her. Peggy’s love and devotion shaped her family, as did her spaghetti, sweet tea and Little Debbie Cakes.

She is survived by her children, Harry Layman Craig II (Jan) of Buckhannon; Debra Craig Wallace (Chris) of Houston, Texas; Jeffrey Todd Craig (Amanda) of Buckhannon; Jennifer Metzler (Michael) of Buckhannon; and Melissa Tenney (Bryan) of Buckhannon; six grandchildren, Quinn Melia Horn (Brenan) of Washington, PA; Preston Todd Craig (Ashley) of Clarksville, TN; Truman Spencer Wallace of Houston, TX; Dylan Powers (Brittney) of Fairmont; Austin Shaffer of Buckhannon; and Laila Rogozinski of Buckhannon; one brother, Ray N. Hyre of Buckhannon; and five great-grandchildren, Harper and Raiden Craig of Clarksville, TN, and Aoife, Idalia and Soliha Horn of Washington, PA.

Following her wishes, Peggy will be cremated and her ashes interred at Heavener Cemetery. A private graveside service will be held at a later date. Her family invites you to a Celebration of Life on June 28th, 2025 at 4:30 pm at the Big Red Barn, 2163 Brushy Fork Rd., Buckhannon.
