One death, 57 additional cases of COVID-19 reported in West Virginia on Tuesday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Tuesday that 57 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

One additional death has been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 67-year old female from Cabell County.

“Our sincere sympathy is extended to this family for their loss,” said Bill J. Crouch, Cabinet Secretary of DHHR, in a press release.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of 5 p.m., on July 21, 2020, there have been 240,201 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 5,199 total cases and 101 deaths,” according to the release.

New cases were reported Tuesday in Barbour, Berkeley, Boone, Brooke, Cabell, Hancock, Hardy, Harrison, Jackson, Kanawha, Lincoln, Logan, Marion, Marshall, Mason, Mineral, Mingo, Monongalia, Nicholas, Ohio, Pocahontas, Putnam, Raleigh, Randolph, Taylor, Wood and Wyoming counties.

The Upshur-Buckhannon Health Department said Monday that there are 32 confirmed cases locally, but the DHHR still lists just 31.

About 1,552 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 3,546 people have recovered and 101 have died.
