One death, 18 new cases of COVID-19 reported in West Virginia on Monday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Monday that 18 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

One additional death has been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR — an 80-year old male from Preston County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of 5 p.m. on June 1, 2020, there have been 99,751 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 2,028 total cases and 76 deaths,” according to a press release.

New cases were reported Monday in Berkeley, Clay, Fayette, Hampshire, Hancock, Jefferson, Mineral, Pendleton, Taylor, Wayne and Wetzel counties.

Earlier in the day, Gov. Jim Justice announced that inmate testing at the Huttonsville Correctional Center had been completed, with 118 inmates testing positive.

About 620 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 1,332 people have recovered and 76 have died, a mortality rate of about 5.4 percent.
