Bulky Goods Collection begins at 5:30 am – Bulky goods collection for large items such as couches, chairs, mattresses, appliances, etc. (All Buckhannon Waste Department customers are allowed 4 items per month, and 8 tires per year.)   You must call by Wednesday, March 6, 2024, to schedule a pick-up.  Items must be at the curb by 5:30 a.m. on the scheduled Friday to ensure pick-up.

CALEA Accreditation Public Comment Sought -The Buckhannon Police Department is a CALEA Accredited Agency. This post has to do with maintaining that accreditation. CALEA maintains an access portal that allows for comment and feedback about candidate agencies seeking initial accreditation and reaccreditation status. The overall intent of the accreditation process is to provide the participating agency with information to support continuous improvement, as well as foster the pursuit of professional excellence. Notice from the Police Civil Service Commission, City of Buckhannon, WV – Notice is hereby given that the Police Civil Service Commission of the City of Buckhannon is accepting applications for competitive examination for the eligibility list for an entry-level police officer in the Police Department of the City of Buckhannon, subject to the following requirements.

1. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and no older than 45 at the time of application.
2. Must have a High School diploma or GED equivalent. (All transcripts required)
3. Applicants will be subject to a background check.
4. Applicants must have a Valid West Virginia Driver License.
5. Applicants must comply with all other laws, rules, and regulations as prescribed in writing by the Code of the State of West Virginia and the Police Civil Service Commission of Buckhannon, West Virginia. Copies of the current written rules and regulations of said Commission are available for inspection by any member of the public at City Hall, 70 East Main Street, Buckhannon, WV during regular business hours.

A required physical agility test and written examination will be administered as part of the application process. The top three scores will be sent to the city council for an interview where a hiring decision may be made.

Candidates who are successfully hired will be subject to residency requirements, a drug test, and physical, psychological, and a polygraph examination.

Notice from the Fire Civil Service Commission, City of Buckhannon – Notice is hereby given that the Fire Civil Service Commission of the City of Buckhannon is accepting applications for competitive examination to create a “List of Eligibles” for the position of probationary firefighter in the Fire Department of the City of Buckhannon.

1. Applicants must be at least eighteen (18) years of age and comply with §8-15-17 of the W. Va. Code.
2. Applicants must have a high school diploma or its equivalent.
3. Applicants must be West Virginia-approved Firefighter 1, IFSAC, or Pro Board Certified. A copy of the certification must be submitted with the application. Once your account has been established, you will just need to log in with the proper email and password.
