Buckhannon’s August 18–22 calendar includes curbside recycling Aug. 19; a Sanitary Board and City Council meeting Aug. 21; city yard-waste collection and Festival Fridays Aug. 22; plus bids, notices and upcoming events.

All meetings, unless specified otherwise, are open to the public and will take place in the Council Chambers at Buckhannon City Hall, located at 70 E Main St, Buckhannon, WV 26201.

Yard Waste Collection for City Residents – Yard Waste (debris) will be collected from City of Buckhannon residents.  Residents must contact Buckhannon City Hall to be placed on the collection list. City residents may take their bagged yard waste (debris) to the Transfer Station during normal operating hours at no charge, and may bring up to two truckloads per year, also at no charge.

Yard Waste Collection Updates – Yard waste will be collected from Buckhannon residents on August 22, 2025. Starting September 1, collections will be every Friday through November 30. Residents must contact City Hall to be added to the collection list. You can also drop off bagged yard waste at the Transfer Station for free, up to two truckloads per year.

Reminders – To help keep our town and streets attractive, please:

  • Lawn care needs to be performed weekly
  • Keep grass clippings out of the street as they can block stormwater drains and cause flooding.  When mowing, always blow the grass away from the street.
  • Trash cans should be hidden from public view as much as possible during the week; place them at the curb the night before collection, and return them within 24 hours after collection.

Police arrested a man on a felony strangulation charge after he allegedly admitted to spitting on, slapping and choking another person, according to a criminal complaint.

Volga man arrested after threatening officer at Upshur County Courthouse

A 59-year-old Volga man was arrested after allegedly threatening a deputy during processing at the Upshur County Courthouse following a DUI stop. He faces charges including DUI, possession of marijuana and retaliation against a public official; bail is $19,500.
