Oink’s BBQ tentatively slated to open in January 2021 on North Kanawha Street

Oinks BBQ plans to open in January 2021 in the former Miss Piggies location on North Kanawha Street.

BUCKHANNON – A new barbecue restaurant is coming to Buckhannon this January.

Oink’s BBQ LLC will be taking over the spot where Miss Piggies operated at 18 N. Kanawha St.

Owner of Oink’s BBQ LLC Cindi Alkire said they are hoping to officially open Jan. 4, 2021.

“I lost my job in June,” Alkire said. “I was in food service, and it’s always been a dream of mine to have my own restaurant and a few weeks after I lost my job, I saw Maggie (Blonn, owner of Miss Piggies) was going to sell, so I just decided, ‘why not’?”

She said while the restaurant will remain focused on barbecue, it will not be the exact same as Miss Piggies.

“I saw the opportunity to give it a try – I know how to cook so I’m just going to give it a try and my son has smoked before so he’s going to help out,” Alkire said. “It’s pretty much all going to be different – same concept, but different recipes, everything will be a little bit different.”

While they have not finalized their entire menu yet, they plan to offer barbecue staples such as pulled pork, brisket, ribs and wings.

“We’re going to do a wing night on Wednesday, and we will have smoked wings,” Alkire said. “I’m contemplating a salad or two for the menu, and then for sides we will have baked beans, coleslaw, mac and cheese, probably a vegetable of some sort, corn or green beans.”

They also plan to offer three different sauces, ranging from sweet barbecue, hot barbecue and a mustard-based barbecue sauce.

“It will almost all be homemade,” Alkire said. “We’re not buying anything pre-packaged or premade, it’ll all be made by us, so I think that’ll be a game changer.”

She said they will be looking to hire people and those who are interested can message them on Facebook, call the restaurant at 304-997-4433 or stop by the restaurant.

“Yes, we are going to be hiring a few people, I’m thinking probably three or four people,” Alkire said. “I’m going to be looking for a cook, smoker and then a couple of servers/register girls.”

Oink’s BBQ LLC will be open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
