The Almost Heaven BBQ Bash will showcase The Ohio School of Falconry during this year’s BBQ Bash, scheduled for June 18-20 in Jawbone Park in downtown Buckhannon, with free shows and interactive opportunities with a variety of birds of prey.
The Ohio School of Falconry was founded in 2014 as a wildlife education organization that uses the techniques learned from participating in the ancient sport of falconry as its medium to teach about raptor conservation, with a goal of making falconry an experience accessible to people from all walks of life.
Located at historic Camp Mary Orton in the scenic Olentangy Highbanks area of Columbus, Ohio, the school is licensed at both the state and federal levels to provide a variety of hands-on falconry programming.
The program focuses on a wide variety of birds from hawks to falcons and from owls to buzzards. The school will bring the birds to Buckhannon to give everyone the opportunity to be introduced to them.
The Ohio School of Falconry will offer shows Friday and Saturday lasting approximately 45 to 60 minutes. The shows will provide detailed introductions to each type of bird, culminating with some members of the audience having a bird fly to them.
There will also be BBQ and other food vendors, arts and crafts, games and other family activities and live entertainment featuring Blue Steele, a gospel and bluegrass group, on Thursday, June 18; Rick K’s Road Trip on Friday, June 19; and West Virginia native and “America’s Got Talent” winner Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. on Saturday evening on the Main Stage in Jawbone Park.
All shows begin at 6 p.m.
