Officials from the City of Buckhannon, the Upshur County Commission and the Upshur County Department of Homeland Security & Emergency Management are requesting community assistance to help meet the urgent needs of residents impacted by recent flooding.

Online orders can be shipped to the fire department

Officials said donations ordered online can be shipped directly to the Buckhannon Fire Department, 22 S. Florida St., Buckhannon, WV 26201.

The option is available for orders placed through major online retailers such as Amazon, Walmart, Target, Sam’s Club, Home Depot and other online vendors.

Shipping donations directly to the fire department ensures rapid intake, sorting and distribution to residents impacted by recent flooding, officials said.

The following items are critically needed and may be donated daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.:

  • Extension cords
  • Household fans
  • Air mattresses
  • Toilet paper
  • Paper towels
  • Non-perishable food items
  • Gatorade
  • Bottled water
  • Paper plates
  • Plastic silverware
  • Regular-size trash bags
  • Mops
  • Brooms
  • Shovels
  • Clorox (liquid disinfectant)

Donation drop-off location — West Virginia Wesleyan College

In-person donations are still being accepted at the Auxiliary Gymnasium at West Virginia Wesleyan College from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Residents in need of supplies can also visit the Auxiliary Gymnasium during those hours.

Public drop-off: Residents may deliver donations at the oval by the fountain (in front of the chapel), accessible from Camden Avenue.

Large or commercial-size loads: Large or commercial deliveries may be made from the parking lot located at 151 Cebe Ross Drive (WVWC), closest to the Auxiliary Gymnasium.

This West Virginia Wesleyan College centralized location ensures supplies are received, sorted and distributed efficiently to affected residents.

Coordination of donations and assistance

The shipping option is provided through a partnership of the City of Buckhannon, the Upshur County Commission and the Upshur County Department of Homeland Security & Emergency Management. The agencies said they appreciate the community’s continued generosity and support during recovery efforts.

All donated resources, volunteer offers and assistance must be coordinated through the Upshur County Office of Emergency Management at 304-472-4983.

Centralized intake remains essential to ensuring resources are received, tracked and distributed efficiently as recovery operations continue, officials said.
