Offense sputters for Lady Bucs in 47-34 road setback to Grafton

GRAFTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Buc offense continues to sputter as they managed just 11 field goals in a 47-34 setback to the Grafton Bearcats Tuesday night in Big 10 Conference action.

The 34 points was a season-low for the Lady Bucs as they failed to reach 50 points for the sixth straight game.

Buckhannon-Upshur managed to shoot the ball at just a 30.5 clip (11-for-36).

B-U owned a 5-2 lead early behind a basket from Gabby Parke, a free throw from Alyssa Abel and a lay-up from Hodge’Nay Henderson, but they wouldn’t score the rest of the quarter as Grafton scored 12 unanswered for a 14-5 lead.

Abel scored the first five points of the second quarter for B-U making it a 14-10 contest, but Grafton responded with back-to-back baskets for an 18-10 advantage.

Henderson drilled a trey to make it 18-13, but B-U would never get any closer the rest of the way.

Grafton closed the half on a 12-3 run putting Buckhannon-Upshur down 30-16 at the intermission.

A three-pointer by Parke closed out the third quarter leaving the Lady Bucs down by 15, at 39-24, going into the final eight minutes of action.

A late 5-0 run from B-U behind a three from Parke and a lay-up from Abel made it a 44-32 contest, but the Lady Bucs couldn’t get any closer.

Kenna Keener led Grafton with a double-double with 26 points and 10 rebounds.

Abel paced B-U with 13 points and six rebounds.

The Lady Bucs dropped to 1-6 overall and 0-4 in the Big 10 Conference.

They will be back in action Thursday hosting Liberty at 7 p.m.
