BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – After a few weeks in her new role, Upshur County Convention and Visitors Bureau Executive Director Cadence Ringer is settling in while focusing on connection, communication and community promotion, with an emphasis on helping local businesses and organizations share what is happening across the area.
“One of my very first impressions in this job was realizing how lucky I am to work right in the heart of Buckhannon on Main Street,” Ringer said. “It’s such a special place, and being surrounded by the energy of downtown every day is something I don’t take for granted. I’ve also been blown away by how supportive the community has been throughout this transition. Everyone has been so welcoming.”
She said her early priorities include building relationships and promoting the area effectively.
“As for early priorities, I’m focused on getting to know our partners, strengthening relationships and making sure we’re showcasing everything Buckhannon and Upshur County have to offer in the best way possible,” Ringer said.
A lifelong Upshur County resident, Ringer said the position feels like a natural fit.
“I’m a lifelong resident of Upshur County, so this truly is a dream job for me,” she said. “In a way, I’ve been promoting Upshur County my whole life. Now I just get to do it professionally. I love this town deeply, and having the opportunity to share what makes it so special with others is something I’m genuinely excited about.”
Ringer said the CVB’s mission relies on sharing information from local businesses and organizations, and she encourages community members to submit events and promotional materials.
“The CVB’s main goal is to attract people to Buckhannon and Upshur County, which means highlighting the businesses and events that help make our community vibrant,” she said. “Anyone who wants to submit information like flyers, graphics, advertisements, anything like that can send them directly to the info@visitbuckhannon.org.”
She said those submissions may be featured across several platforms, including the CVB website, social media and at the visitor center.
“Once received, we can share them on the CVB website on the event calendar, potentially on social media and even display them in the visitor center window,” Ringer said.
“If you visit visitbuckhannon.org, a popup will appear where you can enter your email address,” she said. “Once you sign up, you’ll automatically start receiving our monthly newsletter, which goes out at the beginning of each month.”
The CVB visitor center is located at 16 S. Kanawha St. in downtown Buckhannon. For more information or to sign up for the monthly newsletter, head to visitbuckhannon.org.
