Milton police officer struck by vehicle while directing traffic near elementary school

A Milton Police officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries after being struck by a motorist while directing traffic near Milton Elementary School.

On Thursday, April 17, 2025, at 7:12 am, members of the Huntington Detachment and Cabell County Sheriff’s Department responded to the area of Milton Elementary School in reference to a Milton Police Department officer who had been struck by a passing motorist.

Initial investigation determined that the officer was on the roadway to stop traffic for incoming bus traffic. A passing motorist struck Officer Ian Galloway and immediately stopped and remained on scene. The driver was cooperative, and no impairment was observed by Troopers. At this time, it is not believed the school zone lights had been activated yet for the morning.
