MEC announces Week 6 football honors

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — Mario Pender (Glenville State), Marquis Hamilton (UVa-Wise) and Carl Gorman (WVSU) have earned Mountain East Conference Player of the Week honors for their play in the sixth week of the season.

Pender, a sophomore from Cape Coral, Fla., is the Offensive Player of the Week after helping the Pioneers to a 41-35 win over Concord on Saturday. He rushed for 212 yards on 21 attempts, including a 73-yard carry, and had a pair of touchdowns in the win.

Hamilton, a sophomore from Washington, D.C., is the Defensive Player of the Week after helping UVa-Wise post its first shutout in its Division II era with a 17-0 win over Urbana. He had a pair of interceptions to go along with five tackles, including two for a loss in the victory. The Cavs held Urbana to just 39 yards passing and 147 yards of total offense.

Gorman, a freshman from Aldie, Va., is the Special Teams Player of the Week after helping the Yellow Jackets to a 61-42 win over Kentucky State. Gorman had a 94-yard kickoff return for a touchdown against the Thorobreds and had another return for 21 yards. He also had 10 carries for 56 yards and had two receptions for 21 on offense.

Offense: Calil Wilkins (WVSU) had three touchdowns and 166 yards rushing against Kentucky State … Isaiah Bowman (CU) had his first career 100-yard rushing day with 101 against Glenville State … Jaleel McLaughlin (NDC) added 194 more yards to his total and scored a pair of touchdowns … Tyson Bagent (SU) was 18-of-31 for 253 yards and four TDs … Khalik Hamlin (FSU) had 85 yards on 18 carries against Notre Dame … Luke Casey (WVWC) was 11-of-18 for 160 yards and three scores in the Bobcats first win of the season … Isaiah Young (UU) had 78 yards on 20 carries for the Blue Knights.

Defense: Cliff Clark (WLU) had 18 tackles, including 15 solo stops, against Shepherd … Daniel Robinson (GSC) had five tackles and his first career interception against Concord … Duray Hall (UU) had a season-high 17 tackles (nine solo) vs. UVa-Wise … Chrys Lane (SU) had eight tackles (all solo), including a TFL in a win over West Liberty … Michael Porter (FSU) had a pair of interceptions for the Falcons against Notre Dame … Derrick Butler (WVWC) had four tackles, one interception and one fumble recovery in a win over Charleston … Alec Henderson (CU) had five tackles and a 32-yard interception return for a touchdown for the Mountain Lions.

Special Teams: Tanner Harding (NDC) had a school record 42-yard field goal in a win over Fairmont State … Trevor Owens (WISE) booted an MEC record 81-yard punt and averaged 40.4 on the day … Christian Morris (WLU) averaged 44.3 yards on eight punts, including one of 70 and another of 62 … Brandon Purk (UU) had a career-high 10 punts and had four go over 50 yards … Adam Fulton (CU) had four punts at an average of 49 yards per attempt.
