MEC announces basketball players of the week

Long earns men’s POTY nod

Urbana’s Datrey Long has been named Mountain East Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced today.

Long, a freshman from Columbus, Ohio, scored 26 points and dished out six assists to lead Urbana to an 88-83 win over Salem. Long was 6-for-10 from three-point range, including the go-ahead three in the final minute of regulation. He also added a pair of rebounds and one steal in the victory.

Other Top Performances:
Will Yoakum (WLU) averaged 21.0 points and 6.5 rebounds in two wins last week … Kenzie Melko (FSU) had 17 points, nine rebounds and five assists in a win over Bluefield State … Will Vorhees (NDC) scored 25 points and pulled down 16 rebounds to go with five assists in a loss against Lake Erie … Derek McKnight (SU) scored 14 points and had seven rebounds in a win over No. 25 Shippensburg … Pat Johnson-Agwu (WVSU) had 21.5 points and 5.5 rebounds in a 1-1 week.

Lankford named women’s POTW

Shepherd’s Kari Lankford has been named Mountain East Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for her efforts last week.

Lankford, a senior from York, Pa., notched the first triple-double in program history with 16 points, 15 assists and 12 rebounds in a win over Millersville. She followed up that performance with 10 points, six rebounds, four steals and three assists against Lincoln. She finished the week averaging 13 points, 9.0 rebounds and 9.0 assists in the two contests.

Brooklyn Pannell (UC) had a triple-double with 23 points, 11 rebounds and 10 steals against Ohio Valley … Madison May (CU) led the Mountain Lions to a 2-0 week after averaging 20.5 points and 6.5 rebounds … Marissa Brown (WLU) went for 29 points and 11 rebounds in a loss to Walsh … Brooke Kurucz (FSU) averaged 19.5 points and 6.5 rebounds in a 1-1 week … Charity Shears (WVSU) averaged 17.5 points and 4.5 rebounds in two games last week.
