McCauley steps down from Buckhannon City Council following federal indictment

BUCKHANNON — A member of Buckhannon City Council who was indicted last week on charges related to child pornography has resigned.

David McCauley submitted his resignation on Tuesday, October 8.

“This afternoon, David McCauley submitted his resignation from Buckhannon City Council, effective immediately,” according to a statement from the City of Buckhannon released Tuesday night. “Mayor Robbie Skinner has accepted his resignation on behalf of the council and the City of Buckhannon.”

Skinner had previously said the city planned to consider a resolution that would begin the legal process to remove McCauley from council.

“As a result of this action, it is no longer necessary for the city to embark on the lengthy process of removing Mr. McCauley from office,” the statement reads. “This matter is now closed, and we can move on as a city council and as a community.”
