Manchin, Capito announce drug free community grant in Elkview

Charleston, WV – U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $125,000 for the Regional Family Resource Network, Inc., in Elkview through the Drug-Free Communities (DFC) Support Program. This funding was made available through the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) and will help establish collaboration among communities to prevent and reduce substance abuse among young people.

“The Drug Free Communities program has been instrumental in combatting and preventing drug misuse and abuse in communities across America, and especially among our youth,” said Senator Manchin. “West Virginia has been hit hard by the drug epidemic, and I am pleased the ONDCP is partnering with the Regional Family Resource Network in Elkview to provide support to the youth in their community. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee I will continue to support funding for programs that support our youth and combat substance misuse.”

“As we continue to battle the opioid epidemic in West Virginia, it is clear that a collaborative effort between local, state, and federal partners provides a holistic approach and helps save lives,” said Senator Capito. “Just this year, I have hosted White House ONDCP Director Jim Carroll in WilliamsonLogan, and Huntington to show how opioids are directly impacting our communities and to see how communities throughout the state are tackling this problem head-on. Providing comprehensive services to those in the grip of addiction and preventative efforts to block illegal narcotics from entering our state remain top priorities. I will continue to advocate for the resources and policy our communities need in West Virginia to help end the opioid epidemic.”
