Lonnie Ray Shingleton

Lonnie Ray (Bee/Bee-Ray/Popeye) Shingleton, age 85, of Buckhannon, died Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at his home under the wonderful care of WV Hospice.

He was born in the Brooks Hill Community in Upshur County on December 7, 1938, a son of the late Arley R. “John-O” Shingleton and Ruth Helen (Bunner) Shingleton-Hoover. On October 15, 1960, he was united in marriage to Ellen Jewell Golden, who survives.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother Leonard L. Shingleton (Arnetta) of Buckhannon. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters: Cheryl Dunlavy (Jimmy) of Pensacola, Fl, and Carla Golden (Greg Lively) of Buckhannon; one son Phillip Shingleton of Washington, DC; six grandchildren: Chris Dunlavy (Alicia) of Tuckahoe, NY, Seth Golden (Abbie) of Buckhannon, Cam Dunlavy (Jessica) of New Braunfels, TX, Quinn Hoover (Seth) of Crawford, WV, Mykayla Perez-Shingleton of San Angelo, TX, and Heath Shingleton of Washington, DC. He was also blessed with five great-grandchildren: Isaac, Levi, and Sadie Hoover, and Lainey and Cooper Golden, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Lonnie retired from Corhart Refractories in Buckhannon after 30 years. He attended Chapel Hill United Methodist Church. He and his wife were active members of the REACT CB Club, the Strawberry Pairs Square Dance Club, and the Brooks Hill Community Building. Lonnie enjoyed camping with his family and riding his side by side.

The family would like to thank WV Home Health Care workers and WV Hospice for their wonderful care and compassion.

Mr. Shingleton will be cremated. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at 1 PM at Heavner and Cutright Funeral Chapel with Reverend Paul G. Rebelo officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Brooks Hill Cemetery. A dinner will follow at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Brooks Hill Community Building, 1760 Brooks Hill Road, French Creek, WV 26218.
