Lois Viola Crites Beery

Lois Viola Crites Beery, 95, of Buckhannon, W.Va., died Sunday, August 22, 2021, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon.

She was born November 29, 1925, in Upshur County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Fred and Edith Burr Crites. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Donald Beery; one son, Douglas W. Beery; three brothers, Creed, Loren “Buck” and Scott Crites and two sisters, Zelma Lemons and Lorene Teets.

She is survived by one daughter-in-law, Carol Beery of Carlisle, Pa.; one granddaughter, Angela Niswonger and husband Bob of Mount Holly Springs, Pa.; one great-granddaughter, Makenna Niswonger of Mount Holly Springs; her campground family, Ellery, Carla, Tim, Tom, Mary, Gary, Delbert, Tony, Keith, Jennifer and Allen; and several nieces and nephews. 

Mrs. Beery owned and operated the Pioneer Campground and operated the Upshur County 4-H Camp in Selbyville, W.Va. She was an avid Mountaineer Fan and loved watch the games with her friends and family. She was happiest when she was with her family and friends.

The family would like to thank the amazing staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital, 3rd floor, NCF Unit who took such special care of her. They all made the last years of her life special and she loved all of them like family.

In honoring Mrs. Beery’s wishes, she will be cremated.

Friends will be received for a memorial gathering, Saturday, September 4, 2021, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. J. Edward McDaniels officiating.
