Lewis County residents among 36 new COVID deaths reported in West Virginia on Wednesday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Wednesday that 11,491 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s a decrease of 1,352 since the last report.

Locally, COVID-19 cases are active in Upshur (127), Barbour (97), Lewis (71), Randolph (143) and Webster (52) counties. In Upshur County, that’s a decrease of five active cases in the last 24 hours.

Thirty-six additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 78-year old female from Greenbrier County, a 74-year old female from Marion County, a 68-year old male from Cabell County, a 64-year old female from Cabell County, an 87-year old male from Summers County, a 65-year old male from Kanawha County, a 61-year old male from Mineral County, a 72-year old male from Mercer County, a 57-year old male from Mercer County, an 86-year old female from Kanawha County, a 36-year old male from Kanawha County, a 73-year old male from Brooke County, a 65-year old male from Ohio County, a 68-year old male from Harrison County, a 72-year old male from Raleigh County, a 75-year old female from Lewis County, a 65-year old female from Kanawha County, a 73-year old female from Brooke County, a 66-year old male from Marion County, a 75-year old male from Mercer County, a 78-year old male from Wyoming County, an 83-year old female from Kanawha County, a 65-year old male from McDowell County, a 77-year old female from Mineral County, a 55-year old female from Mason County, a 64-year old female from Logan County, an 80-year old female from Harrison County, an 82-year old female from Kanawha County, a 73-year old male from Preston County, an 81-year old male from Brooke County, a 76-year old male from Hampshire County, an 88-year old male from Kanawha County, a 58-year old male from Mercer County, a 34-year old male from Berkeley County, an 83-year old female from Lewis County, and a 70-year old male from Harrison County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of February 2, 2022, there are currently 11,491 active COVID-19 cases statewide. There have been 36 deaths reported since the last report, with a total of 5,814 deaths attributed to COVID-19,” according to a press release.

About 1,097 residents are hospitalized with the virus (68% unvaccinated, 32% vaccinated), with 235 currently in intensive care (78% unvaccinated, 22% vaccinated) and 124 on a ventilator (84% unvaccinated, 16% vaccinated). The daily percent positive was 17.79%.

A total of 951,875 people have been vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, the DHHR said.  That’s about 53% of the state. Of those, 383,601 are fully vaccinated and have received their booster dose.
