Lewis County man among six COVID-19 deaths announced Saturday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Saturday that 346 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

Locally, new cases were reported in Upshur (1), Barbour (12), Lewis (1), Randolph (7) and Webster (8) counties.

A total of 75 cases are currently active in Upshur County, according to the DHHR.

Six additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – an 83-year old female from Raleigh County, a 76-year old female from Wood County, a 55-year old female from Raleigh County, a 71-year old male from Kanawha County, a 79-year old male from Lewis County and a 47-year old male from Kanawha County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of February 27, 2021, there have been 2,167,906 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 131,580 total cases and 2,297 total deaths,” according to a press release.

About 7,486 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 121,797 people have recovered and 2,297 have died. The daily percent positive was 3.79%.

A total of 194,412 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said.
