Lewis, Barbour county residents among the new COVID-19 deaths reported Wednesday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Wednesday that 453 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

Locally, new cases were reported in Upshur (3), Barbour (12), Lewis (2), Randolph (6) and Webster (3) counties.

A total of 26 cases are currently active in Upshur County, according to the DHHR.

Eleven additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 48-year old female from Lewis County, an 83-year old female from Barbour County, an 83-year old male from Putnam County, a 59-year old male from Raleigh County, a 72-year old female from Raleigh County, an 81-year old female from Mineral County, a 53-year old male from Raleigh County, a 74-year old male from Hancock County, a 73-year old female from Logan County, a 75-year old male from Kanawha County, and a 76-year old male from Mineral County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of April 28, 2021, there have been 2,696,061 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 152,301 total cases and 2,673 total deaths,” according to a press release.

About 7,081 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 142,547 people have recovered and 2,673 have died. The daily percent positive was 3.43%.

A total of 566,476 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said.
