Larry Gail Courtney, 74, of Buckhannon, W.Va., died Saturday, June 29, 2019, at his home in Buckhannon surrounded by family and under the care of West Virginia Hospice.
He was born February 21, 1945, in Adrian, W.Va., a son of the late John and Tressie Demastes Courtney.
On January 9, 1998, he married Barbara Dietsch, who survives.
Also surviving are one son, Larry Courtney, II of Morgantown, W.Va.; three daughters, Paula Cutright and Patrick of Buckhannon, Teresa Kelley and husband Tim of Buckhannon and Heather Guthrie of Charleston, W.Va.; nine grandchildren, Chelsea, Dustyn, Devon, Doug, Chelsie, Gavin, Cody, Tressie and Michael; two great-granddaughters, Hailey and Hanna; one brother, Johnny Courtney and wife Donna of Buckhannon; one sister, Nancy Mattheson and husband Steve of Calif. and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Courtney served in the U. S. Navy, was a truck driver and a member of the Buckhannon Moose Lodge 598. He enjoyed woodworking, working on computers and watching NASCAR.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the W.Va. Hospice staff, especially Renee, Denise, Stephanie and Jen.
Friends will be received Tuesday, July 2, 2019 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Wease L. Day officiating. Burial will follow at the Heavner Cemetery in Buckhannon.
The Upshur County Honor Guard will conduct military honors at the gravesite.
