Lady ‘Cats blank Glenville State in MEC soccer action, 2-0

GLENVILLE — MaKatlyn Tucker delivered her fifth goal in only three games and Ashlyn Ray scored her first collegiate goal as West Virginia Wesleyan (6-5-2, 6-4-1) women’s soccer cruised to a 2-0 shutout victory over Glenville State (1-12-0, 0-12-0) at I.L. & Sue Morris Stadium Wednesday evening.

It was a scoreless deadlock until the 41st minute when Natalia Roppolo sent a beautiful lead pass down the pitch. Tucker got to the ball on the run and then knocked it into the bottom right corner of the net for a 1-0 halftime advantage.

In the 58th minute, the ball was jostled loose and landed at the feet of Ray outside of the 18-yard box to the right.

She fired a rocket to the left of the diving Pioneer keeper as Wesleyan controlled the game by a score of 2-0.

Ally Moore earned the start in goal and collected a pair of saves for WVWC’s sixth clean sheet of the season.

The Lady Bobcats will travel to Charleston next on Sunday for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
