Lady ‘Cats and Wheeling battle to scoreless draw

WHEELING, W.Va. — The West Virginia Wesleyan (7-7-2, 7-6-1) women’s soccer team outshot Wheeling (4-11-2, 3-10-2) by a 20-13 margin (10-4 on goal) in a 0-0 draw on Wednesday at Bishop Schmitt Field. 
 
Both teams registered nine shots in the first half including back-to-back shots on goal from MaKatlyn Tucker (26′) and Ashlyn Ray (27′).
 
Lady Bobcat goalkeeper Ally Moore made an outstanding save diving to her left in the 38th minute on an elevated shot by Mary DiFonzo. Moments later during the 43rd minute, Wheeling’s Braedynn Porter dragged a shot right of the goal. 
 
Wesleyan let off a steady barrage of shots in the second half, but none found the back of the net as the game headed to overtime. 
 
Danielle Jonas fired a pair of shots in the first half of overtime including one on target in the 98th minute.

The score remained deadlocked through the second overtime period as the game ended in a 0-0 tie.
 
WVWC women’s soccer will return home for Senior Day on Sunday at 3 p.m. against Davis & Elkins.
