Lady ‘Cat lacrosse team falls to UC, 17-4

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The West Virginia Wesleyan (3-7, 0-4) lacrosse team dropped a road conference game to Charleston (4-6, 2-2) on Wednesday at Elliot Field in Charleston, W.Va.
 
WVWC Leaders
Four Lady ‘Cats (Makenzi LewellynEmma AdcockIsabella Verona and Kaitlynn Canby) scored. Defender Gabrielle Holstein scooped up a game-high six ground balls. Madysan Chisholm caused four turnovers and Adcock caused three. Maggie Wroe made eight saves on 25 shots.
 
UC Leaders
Gianni Blundell had a game-high three goals. Tess Yuhas dished out three assists. Blundell collected five ground balls and Madison Sobolewski caused three turnovers. Goaltender Jasmine James made five saves and was credited with the win.
 
Inside the First Half
Lewellyn opened the scoring for the Lady Bobcats. The sophomore scored her 11th goal of the season less than two minutes after the first draw of the game. UC would score six straight goals and led by five at the end of the first quarter.
 
Adcock slipped a shot into the back of the net to give WVWC their second goal of the contest. The Plant City, Fla., has tallied 27 goals in her freshman campaign. At the end of the first half, the Golden Eagles led by 12.
 
Inside the Second Half
The Lady Bobcats scored with 6:17 left in the third quarter when Verona added an unassisted goal. The Golden Eagles maintained a 12-point cushion heading into the final quarter. Canby connected on her 11th goal of the season in the fourth quarter. UC won the Mountain East Conference tilt, 17-4.
