TENNERTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Bucs knew they had their work cut out for them Saturday afternoon hosting the Class AAAA No. 2 Wheeling Park Patriots, but they probably didn’t expect the score to be run up on them in the manner that it was in an 89-40 setback.

In a game that was well in hand at the half by Wheeling Park with a 30-point lead, the Patriots still jacked up 25 three-pointers in the second half and head coach Ryan Young never slowed down the tempo of the game, keeping starters on the floor well into the fourth quarter, with all five starters getting at least 26 minutes of action.

B-U went down 15-0 just 2 ½ minutes into the game before a Hodge’Nay Henderson lay-up at the 5:21 mark put the Lady Bucs on the scoreboard.

Casadie Lahman put in a trey for the Lady Bucs, after a three from Wheeling Park’s Alexis Bordas, one of 20 made by Wheeling Park, Lahman came back with a lay-up making it 25-7 with 90 seconds left in the opening quarter.

B-U trailed by a 32-11 score after one quarter.

Down 43-13, Harley Dean scored from underneath, Lahman uncorked another three-pointer, and Kyndal Davis put in consecutive backs for a 9-0 run making it a 43-22 score with two minutes left in the half.

Wheeling Park scored nine straight points to end the half taking a 52-22 lead into the intermission.

B-U managed just two field goals in the third quarter as Wheeling Park kept launching in threes (four for the quarter) putting the Lady Bucs down 68-30 going into the fourth quarter.

Wheeling Park tacked on five more three-pointers in the fourth quarter for the 49-point win.

Bordas led Wheeling Park with 27 points while Natalie Daugherty added 25 and Lala Woods 15.

Wheeling Park improved to 10-2 on the year.

Alyssa Abel led Buckhannon-Upshur with 11 points while Davis contributed 10.

The loss dropped the Lady Bucs to 2-7 on the year.

They will be back in action Tuesday at Fairmont Senior in a Big 10 Conference clash.

The game will start at 7:30 p.m.
