Lady Bobcats win third straight as they topple Notre Dame, 64-59

BUCKHANNON — The West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcats and visiting Falcons from Notre Dame College (OH) ran a back-and-forth battle that saw Wesleyan’s winning streak extend to three games with a 64-59 victory, Wednesday evening.

Wesleyan played from behind at a comfortable distance until 7:24 on the second quarter clock when a jumper by Desiree Roy gave the Lady Bobcats its first lead 17-16. Back-and-forth the teams went and the hard-fought first half saw the Lady Bobcats take a one-point advantage into the locker room 27-26.

Wesleyan continued widening the gap in the third quarter and were up by as much as 12 with two minutes gone in the fourth before Notre Dame started clawing back. The Falcons came within three points with 24 seconds to go but Lady Bobcat offensive rebounding and solid free throw performances ended the Falcons hopes of victory.

Baird was 6-of-13 from the field (3-of-6 from beyond three) and a perfect 6-of-6 from the line. Roy continued her double-double streak with 10 points and 10 rebounds, and Courtney Wilfong and Shelby Genes each added nine points.

Notre Dame was led by Karli Anker who went 5-of-8 from the field and 5-of-8 from the free throw line for 19 points. Lilee Carlson scored 16 points and Weathers had 10 points.
