Lacrosse Lady ‘Cats shut down Edinboro in 9-3 victory to even mark at 1-1

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – Kaitlyn Canby and Emma Adcock both racked up three goals apiece as the West Virginia Wesleyan (1-1) lacrosse team won their home opener versus Edinboro (0-1) on Wednesday at Ross Field.
 
WVWC Leaders
Canby led the Lady ‘Cats with four points, adding an assist in the second half. Adcock fired nine shots on goal. Iris Kolenich and Makenzi Lewellyn each racked up four ground balls. Lewellyn caused four turnovers. Maggie Wroe earned the win as the goalkeeper and made six saves.
 
Edinboro Leaders
Kandyce Graham scored two goals for the Fighting Scots. Lexi Boyk scored one goal and put three shots on goal. Boyk scooped up five ground balls and caused four turnovers.
 
Inside the First Half
Adcock got the Lady Bobcats on the board early, scoring 25 seconds into the game. Isabella Verona dished out an assist to Adcock. Canby scored her first goal of the afternoon with 13:42 left in the first quarter. Wesleyan held a 2-0 advantage after one quarter of play.
 
Canby found the back of the net for the second time to put WVWC up three. Edinboro answered after Graham scored her first goal of the day. Canby completed her hat trick with 6:35 to go in the first half. Boyk cut the Lady Bobcat lead to two points. Verona scored a short-handed goal in the final minutes of the second quarter that gave the Lady Bobcats a three-goal lead at the break.
 
Inside the Second Half
Each team scored a goal in the third quarter. Lewellyn found Verona for her second goal of the afternoon to increase the WVWC lead to four. Graham scored her second goal of the game that made the score 6-3 Lady Bobcats.
 
It was all Wesleyan in the final quarter. Adcock scored consecutive goals for a hat trick that pushed the ‘Cats ahead by five. Kolenich entered the scoring column with a goal of her own with 4:50 remaining to make the final score 9-3 Lady Bobcats.
