Lacrosse Lady ‘Cats end year with loss to Charleston, 17-9

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – The West Virginia Wesleyan (3-11, 0-8) lacrosse team dropped a 17-9 home game to Charleston (6-8, 4-4) on Saturday in their season finale at Ross Field.
 
WVWC Leaders
Kaitlynn Canby scored three goals while Isabella Verona and Makenzi Lewellyn each added two. Emma Adcock and Gabrielle Holstein contributed one goal. Yuka Mizuide dished out an assist. Canby led the Lady Bobcats with five ground balls and two caused turnovers. Maggie Wroe made 10 saves.
 
Charleston Leaders
Sophia Conzone posted six goals. Conzone, Gianni Blundell and Madison Sobolewski passed two assists each. Blundell scooped up five ground balls and caused four turnovers. Georgia Ryan made nine saves in goal.
 
Inside the First Half
The Golden Eagles outscored the Lady Bobcats 11-0 in the opening quarter. Canby got the Lady Bobcats on the board at the 2:41 mark in the second quarter. Charleston led 12-1 at the end of the first half.
 
Inside the Second Half
Adcock scored her 35th goal of the season to open up the second half scoring. Canby found the back of the net for her second time with 9:18 remaining in the third quarter. Verona added a goal in the final 90 seconds of the third quarter to put WVWC within nine.
 
Canby completed her hat-trick when she slipped a goal past the UC netminder in the first two minutes of the final quarter. After two UC goals, Lewellyn and Verona tallied goals to put WVWC within eight at the 9:04 mark. The visitors struck twice and regained a 10-goal lead. Lewellyn and Holstein both scored within the final minute of action. The Golden Eagles claimed a 17-9 win.
