Katherine Luella Hanline

Katherine Luella Hanline, age 88, of French Creek, died Thursday, February 16, 2023, at her home. 

She was born on February 1, 1935, a daughter of the late Olen Charles and Iva Luemain Sines Carpenter.  On July 5, 1951, she was united in marriage to Arthur “Clay” Hanline, who preceded her in death on November 3, 2011.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by one grandson-in-law Jeff; one great grandchild; two great-great grandchildren; and four sisters:  Betty Wayts, Linda Cutright Detamore, Rosemary Lee, and Fern Hoose.

She is survived by four daughters:  Barbara and husband Gary Bostian of Richfield, NC, Bonnie and husband Eddie Gibson of Union, SC, Bertha and husband Michael Phipps of French Creek, and Maxine Hanline and wife Kelly of Colorado Springs, CO; eight sons:  Doy Hanline of French Creek, Roy Hanline and wife Kim of Alexander, Jack Hanline and wife Brenda of Evergreen, Leon Hanline and wife Lori of Mt. Zion, Henry Hanline and companion Linda Williams of French Creek, Denzil Hanline and wife Diane of Volga, Paul Hanline of French Creek, and Mark Hanline of French Creek; 29 grandchildren; 41 great grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren; one brother Otto Carpenter; and several nieces and nephews.

Katherine was an avid gardening and enjoyed tending her flowers.  She thoroughly loved visiting with her family and was a collector of trinkets.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 18, 2023, from 5-8:00 PM, at the Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel.  The funeral will be held on Sunday, February 19, 2023, at 2:00 PM, at the funeral chapel, with Pastors J. Edward McDaniels, Dennis Estes, and Nathan Forbes officiating.  Interment will follow in the Center Chapel Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to WVU Hospice, 2673 Davisson Run Road, Clarksburg, WV 26301 or the Upshur County Senior Center, 28 N. Kanawha Street, Buckhannon, WV 26201.
