Jones Directing Career Services at Davis & Elkins

ELKINS – Christopher Jones has been appointed director of career services at Davis & Elkins College, a position he began at the start of the spring 2020 semester.

As director of career services, Jones is responsible for providing career counseling to current students and recent graduates, assisting students in identifying their strengths and interests in determining a career path, and administering the student internship program. He will regularly work with faculty, employers, alumni and professional schools in relation to career services.

“We’re very happy to welcome Chris Jones as our new director of career services here at Davis & Elkins College,” said Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Rob Phillips. “He has jumped right in to tackle the challenges of the position and I am confident that his experience, enthusiasm and knowledge of the field will be beneficial to our students, the College and the local community.” 

A native of Seminole, Texas, Jones brings to D&E professional experience in career counseling and economic development.

Most recently, Jones served as director of career services at Community College of Aurora in Aurora, Colorado. He also has worked in the economic development field in west Texas and later with the National Security Agency. In addition, he has served as a career advisor at Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas.

As a senior in college, Jones was elected to the San Marcos City Council and served two terms in office that included designation as deputy mayor.

“I am truly excited to join the D&E staff,” Jones said. “Having staff, faculty and community members who are excited about career development makes my job a joy. Community members and local Randolph County companies expressed their excitement and interest in D&E students and graduates during my interview. I look forward to supporting these connections and deepening the D&E student experience.”  

Jones holds a Master of Science degree in information technology/networks from Colorado Technical University, a Master’s in Public Administration and a Bachelor of Science degree in public administration, both from Texas State University. He also is a 2011 graduate of the National Association of Colleges and Employers Leadership Institute, holds a National Career Development Association FCDA Certificate and is certified by the Global Career Development Facilitator Center for Credentialing & Education.
