Johnny Dwayne Courtney, age 78, of Buckhannon, WV, died Monday, March 2, 2026, at United Hospital Center in Bridgeport, WV.
He was born August 8, 1947, in Buckhannon, the son of the late John R. and Tressie Lucille Demastes Courtney.
On October 31, 2015, he married Donna Riffle of Buckhannon, who survives.
Also surviving are eight children: Shawn Graham and husband Charlie of Kingwood, WV; Sharla Smith and husband Shane of Buckhannon; Kimberly Smith and husband Josh of Stillwater, OK; Johnna Courtney of Clarksburg, WV; Kyle Riffle of Buckhannon; Maycee Riffle of Buckhannon; Emma Riffle of Buckhannon; and Remington Reed of Buckhannon; seven bonus children: Shiloh Riffle of Buckhannon; Steven Riffle and significant other Tiffany Davis of Buckhannon; Sierra Lowe and significant other Dalton Suder of Buckhannon; Zerrick Riffle of Buckhannon; Chance Ward of Clarksburg, WV; Jacob Ward of Buckhannon; and Presley Ware of Buckhannon; six grandchildren: Jordan, Codey, Alyssa, Justice, Jax, and Nathan; 12 bonus grandchildren: Madison, Robert, Haven, Axel, Bella, Nova, Maycen, Kaitlyn, Grayson, Kenzie, Brooklyn, and Bailey; and four great-grandchildren: Hayes, Jace, Mae’lani, and Ezekiel.
Mr. Courtney was a Christian by faith and a truck driver by trade. He had a passion for building, tinkering with, and racing lawn mowers. Known for being a jokester, Johnny loved to wheel, deal, and trade. His favorite times included trips to the beach with his family and spending time with his two sidekicks, Remington and Kaitlyn.
In honoring Johnny’s wishes, there will be no services, and his body will be cremated. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the funeral home to help with funeral expenses.
