John Leroy Gould

John Leroy Gould, age 81, of the Eden community and formerly of Vermilion, OH, passed away July 9, 2024, at his home in Eden.

He was born April 9, 1942, in Eden, WV, a son of the late Elmer and Ocie Powers Gould and was a direct descendant of the early pioneers of French Creek, WV.

On October 04, 2002, he married Anna Paetzold who survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Michael (Tiffany) Gould of LaGrange, OH, John (Jennifer) Gould of Bagdad, KY, Tristan (Melissa) Stanley, Joanna Green of Bath, NY and Alex Stanley of Vermillion, OH; 17 grandchildren; David, Tristan, Julia, Kerrick, Tyra, Cara, Gretchen, LCPL Lydia, Jonathan, Aralyn, Hannah, Bethany, Heavynn, Logan, Grace, Charlotte and Ryan; two great grandchildren, Kobyn and Hudson; his former wife Lesa (Foster) Baldwin; one sister, Rosalie (Willard) Rice of Sandusky, OH; one brother, Danny (Trish) Gould of French Creek; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Gould of Lincolnton, GA, Carol Workman of Buckhannon, WV and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Gene Powers, Elmer “Junior” Gould, Frank Gould, Jimmy Gould, and Gary Joe Gould.

John served three years with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, spending a good portion of that time in Germany. He retired from Ford Motor Co. Lorain Assembly Plant after working 30 years.

John was an avid hunter and fisherman, he enjoyed the outdoors and always dreamed of returning “home” after retirement to pursue these activities. He enjoyed a good western and spending time with his grandchildren, he was proud of all of them! He was a member of Vermilion Assembly of God for many years, serving as deacon and usher. After moving to WV he became a member of Canaan Community Church.

Friends will be received Sunday, July 14, 2024, from 1 PM to 3 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 3PM at the funeral home with Pastor Jerry Lee officiating. In honoring Mr. Gould’s wishes, he will be cremated after the services.
