John Junior Levier

John Junior Levier, 94, of Buckhannon, W.Va., died Thursday, February 4, 2021 at Holbrook Health Care Center in Buckhannon.

He was born December 7, 1926 in Greenbriar County, W.Va., a son of the late John Porter and Bernice Brake Levier.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and Arlo Levier and one sister, Betty Saylor.

He is survived by his wife Wilma Westfall Levier of Buckhannon; one son, Jim Levier and wife Betsy of Buckhannon; one daughter, Janet Wanstreet and husband Tim of Bridgeport, W.Va.; two step-sons, Rex Smith of Archdale, NC and Greg Smith of Huttonsville, W.Va.; three step-daughters, Debbie Helmick of Buckhannon, Judy Burns of Parkersburg, W.Va. and Sue Cunningham of Buckhannon; one grandson, James C. Levier and wife Cheryl of Riversville, W.Va.; three granddaughters, Andrea and Christina Wanstreet both of Morgantown, W.Va. and Stephanie Tidd and husband Steve of Odenton, Md.; three great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; six step grandchildren and six step great-grandchildren.

Mr. Levier served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. At the age of 65, he retired as a member of the Labor Union. After that he worked and volunteered at Holbrook’s on the Hill and acted as a surrogate grandparent at the WVWC Child Development Center. He did not fully retire until he was well into his 80’s.

In honoring Mr. Levier’s wishes, he will be cremated. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
