Jerry Downey Carter of Buckhannon, WV passed away September 5, 2023, after a lengthy illness at the age of 72.
He was born April 7, 1951, a loving son of Flowretta Carter. He graduated from Buckhannon Upshur High School in 1969 and West Virginia University with a degree in Psychology. Jerry’s career began in financial services, but the majority of his career was spent working for his uncle Ralph’s family business in Los Angeles, CA.
Jerry was a loving son, uncle and friend to many. He will be dearly missed by his brothers, Jay (Jan) of FL and Steve of Morgantown who was also his devoted caretaker; sister, Mary Louise of Washington D.C.; niece, Stephanie of MD, whom he shared a special bond with and several other nieces and nephews.
Jerry was a critical thinker who loved the outdoors and his daily walk throughout town. He had a love of music of all genres and will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.
Friends will be received Tuesday, September 12, 2023, from 11 AM to 1 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 1 PM Tuesday at the funeral home with Pastor Kenneth Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Baptist Cemetery in Buckhannon.
